Kitt Johnson
DENMARK
Kitt JOHNSON is a loner. Through her wide-ranging work with the language of choreography, a unique sense for space and stage effects and sublime body control, she has created a personal expression and sureness of style. This has placed her as one of the most respected and sought-after Danish choreographers both in her home country and internationally.
Johnson is known as a major solo performer, although her work covers a wider spectrum. She has worked extensively with site-specific projects throughout Europe and in recent years, has created a series of ensemble works which have challenged her artistic vision.
Johnson is also Artistic Director of the Danish company X-act. Since 1992 she has, with X-act, worked with the Swedish composer and musician Sture Ericson. She has worked with numerous artists since 1997, including Danish lighting designer Mogens Kjempff and costume designer Charlotte Østergaard, and the Greek-born visual artist, performer and writer, Theofanis K. Melàs.
Over the years Johnson has received a slew of awards. She was recognised for Stigma with an award from The Danish Art Foundation in 1999, and was also nominated for the prestigious Reumert award. More recently, Johnson’s latest solo, DRIFT (or drive), received the award for Most Original Exploration Into One Of The Segments Of Theatrical Language at INFANT festival 2013.
Stigma will be performed at the CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival 2013.
