Kim Jae Duk
KOREA
As T.H.E Dance Company’s very first resident choreographer, KIM Jae Duk’s works have been described by critics as among some of the most attention grabbing, refreshing and innovative. His pulsating works straddle both the pop and artistic realms and place great emphasis on highlighting complications that arise from an individual’s relationship with larger societal structures. His works shed light on sections of society that do not necessarily fall into the standard mould.
Kim’s partnership with T.H.E is seen as both vital and beneficial. Artistic attitudes of both parties are perfectly aligned and form a dynamic relationship. More than just an invited foreign choreographer, Kim’s energy is essential to further developing T.H.E’s artistic core.
Since his appointment as Resident Choreographer at T.H.E, Kim has created four works for the company – Bohemian Parody, RE:OK...BUT!, Hey Man!, and Present. These four works feature his signature style – dark humour, fast-paced choreography and stylishly self-composed, beat-driven music. His works situate themselves perfectly in today’s contemporary environment. Kim is currently also Artistic Director of the up-and-coming Korean contemporary dance company, Modern Table.
