Astrid Boons was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1988. She received her dance education at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp and continued her studies at Codarts in Rotterdam. As a dancer, Boons was part of the following companies: Dansgroep Amsterdam, Nederlands Dans Theater and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. In 2017, she was a guest dancer with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. Boons has worked with diverse choreographers such as Saburo Teshigawara, Jirí Kylián, Lightfoot/Leon, Ohad Naharin, Hans Van Manen, Johan Inger, Ina Christel Johannessen, Michael Keeghan-Dolan, Ivan Perez, Marina Mascarell, Richard Siegel, Marie Chouinard, Alexander Ekman, Itzik Galili, Regina Van Berkel, among others. Embarking on a choreographic journey since 2014, her first work Alina was selected as one of the finalist works for the International Competition for Choreographers Hanover. In 2016 she created the duet Rhizoma, which received the BNG Bank Dansprijs 2017 and Piket Kunstprijs 2017 for emerging talent in the Netherlands. Her latest work Vestige premiered in the fall of 2017, and was shortlisted in the top 5 performances of 2017 in Amsterdam-based newspaper, Het Parool.
