Binary – International Artists Showcase

When

29 & 30 June 2017, 8PM

Venue

Esplanade Theatre Studio

Two stunning duos headline this year’s annual showcase of outstanding international choreographers. Don’t miss husband-and-wife pair Dimo Kirilov and Tamako Akiyama’s highly-anticipated return to the festival stage, while Rudi Cole and Júlia Robert from UK’s Humanhood present a hypnotic piece transporting audiences into a dream-like world.

Broken Lines by Dimo Kirilov (Bulgaria/Spain)
& Tamako Akiyama (Japan/Spain)

Broken Lines arises from the human tendency to dramatise and exaggerate the reality of situations. In losing the ability to properly communicate ourselves, the lines of understanding begin to falter.

Praise for Kirilov & Akiyama: “They defy gravity in the most complex yet fluid partnering manoeuvres and their rapport is born out of a deep understanding that only comes with a long relationship. The pair of dancers folds, soars and spirals, displaying a graceful power and powerful grace” – The Flying Inkpot, 2013

Zero by Humanhood (U.K.)

Rudi Cole (U.K.) & Júlia Robert (Spain)

If we restart at point zero, how would we look at reality and experience life? Two individuals dive into a sea of energy, reconnecting with identity. What emerges is a visually and sonically mesmerising performance of immersive sound, lights and virtuosic movement where the two dancers entangle in a ritualistic journey. Zero promises to transport its viewers into a dream-like world of imagination and beauty.

A 15-minute extract of Zero was awarded 1st Prize at the Madrid Choreographic Competition in 2016.
