Tasmanian born, Stephanie Burridge trained at the Laban Center (UK) and holds a PhD in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School. As Artistic Director of Canberra Dance Theatre (1978-2001) she created over 40 works and also choreographed for television, music theatre, opera and international companies such as Ballet Philippine. Burridge was awarded the inaugural Choreographic Fellowship at the Australian Choreographic Centre and an ACT Lifetime Achievement Award. She lectures at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore Management University, is a dance critic and commissioning editor of numerous Routledge anthologies including the “Celebrating Dance in Asia and the Pacific” book series and Dance Education around the World: Perspectives on Dance, Young People and Change, Foreword by Sir Ken Robinson. She is the Research and Documentation Network Co-Chair for World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific; her choreographic and research projects have been funded by the Australia Council, the National Arts Council and Singapore International Foundation.
