Young choreographers tackle some of life’s big questions in the Festival’s intimate studio showing of new talent. MODeCo, a collective by Twinkle Chua, presents a soul - searching reflection of the veils we wear in Réveil; Adam Lau’s i have nothing to do with explosions muses on the connections between people and the universe, while Lim Pei Ern’s You/Me? challenges the false binaries of “Male” and “Female”, “Actor” and “Dancer”.

Inspired by how persons, planets, and the stars revolve around one another regardless of their (in)significance, the work explores the inexplicable connection two persons can share even in our peripheral existence, even in our grand universe.

Muscles are the accumulation of habits over time. After 26 years of “masculine” body training, Lim and Pang interrogate the possibilities of shedding these impulses in search of a palpable feminine essence. You/Me seeks to challenge the false binaries of Actor / Dancer, Masculine / Feminine.

Réveil interprets the state of being due to the veil we wear in society that separates us and distracts us from our true purpose, placing importance on things that are transient and perishable. The soul must awaken and perceive beyond what the eyes see.
