T.H.E Dance Company’s Studio (Goodman Arts Centre)
Approximately 75 minutes
Off Stage is an intimate studio showcase of new works-in-progress. Through a session of performances and live discussions, audiences are invited to share in the artistic journeys of five young choreographers who will open up to the vulnerability of the creative process.
In their personal reflections, they will share their works-in-progress with our audience, who are invited to share their feedback in a spirit of giving and receiving. This year’s hotly anticipated edition sees our artists exploring the themes of touch and connectivity.
In The Other Half, Puri examines the effects of ‘toxic masculinity’ on the body and breath, while Xenres ruminates on the condition of body dysmorphic disorder in Vessel of Theseus through his very own water breath technique, drawing influences from Taichi, Aikido, Micro-acrobatics and Capoeira.
In Moving Through Touch, Pei Yun and Maybelle tap into their experiences with movement, somatic practices and hand gestures to create a duet exploring possibilities informed by the negotiations between two bodies. Chloe Chua expands on the idea of grief as she confronts her emotions and coping mechanisms in Before, After and Everything In Between.
Finally in Thus I’ve Heard (如是我闻), Jieying explores the concept of impermanence and emptiness as dynamic processes.
