An annual Festival highlight, witness the future of contemporary dance in M1 Open Stage as we discover curious, risk-taking choreographic talents from Singapore, South-east Asia and beyond.
Using contemporary dance as a platform for experimentation, M1 Open Stage is a window into the multi-facetedness of the human imagination. Attracting more than 150 applicants from 48 countries, these artists showcase their own unique paths of self-expression. Dancers turn diverse inspirations – from the experience of exhausting mental states to biblical parables – into a fascinating line-up of 12 performances over three different programmes.
For the first time, M1 Open Stage will feature works by two Festival Directors: French-Laotian Olé Khamchanla, director of Fang Mae Khong International Dance Festival (Laos); and former Sankai Juku dancer Nobuyoshi Asai, director of New: Kogane Asian Dance Festival (Japan).
On the local front, don’t miss works by Singaporean husband-and-wife duo Wayne Ong and Leia Ang, co-founder of P7:1SMA Hasyimah Harith, performance maker Pat Toh, and former T.H.E Second Company artist Tan Sen Cai.
Playful and always surprising, M1 Open Stage will whet your appetite for more contemporary dance.
