cont·act Contemporary Dance Festival
Having started out as a simple week of dance events in 2010, cont·act Contemporary Dance Festival is now an annual staple with 12 editions under its belt, and 2 name changes to boot! cont·act – meaning “continued act” – encapsulates the Festival’s enduring commitment to the local contemporary dance landscape through championing independent practitioners and uplifting younger generations of emerging artists and arts thinkers. Echoing the gesture of touch, or contact, cont·act celebrates dance as a force that bridges perspectives and experiences, and touches hearts and minds.
The 13th edition of the Festival reunites local, regional, and international artists once again, bringing a smorgasbord of heartfelt expressions and awe-inspiring experiences through 16 live performances and over 20 classes and workshops. From playful approaches to dance, to poignant reflections of our modern-day world, let cont·act take you on a journey like no other to reimagine, redefine, and reconnect with yourself and your world around.
Festival Director’s Message
This year, cont·act Contemporary Dance Festival returns to the body as a starting point, examining facets of our relationships with our society, culture, environment and nation through the embodied lens of dance. Amidst a heady mix of power, taboos, and chaos, our Festival artists take on the bold challenge of reimagining the possibilities of dance, and the multitudinous self.
This Festival edition features a lineup that is more streamlined in comparison to previous years, but with a greater focus on the precision demanded from the body as a vehicle of expression. In turn, there are also more classes and workshops on offer, packed with a rich breadth of movement approaches, perspectives, and ideas from all over the world. We hope that this edition offers a reminder on the importance of honing and tuning the instrument that is the body, and the irreplaceable nature of physicality and presence in dance and in performance.
We look forward to your support and participation; we’ll see you this June!
